Moore Barlow is currently seeking a Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive to join our leading Medical Negligence Team. This team is spread across our offices in Guildford, Richmond, and Southampton; the successful candidate can be based at any of these locations.

Formed via a merger in 2020, Moore Barlow is a Top 200 law firm with an aim to be the best law firm to work for regionally. We are a career firm, providing access to high-quality work, long-term career opportunities and an environment built on the premise of being “human first” in everything we do. Put simply, we care as much about your career as you do.

We are featured in The Times’ Best Law Firms 2026 list, and consistently achieve recognition for the quality of our services in the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners, with our Medical Negligence Team ranking in the top tiers of these directories for over 20 years.

We are now 450 people, including 280 lawyers and 58 Partners, with offices across the South-East and London.

More about the Medical Negligence Team:

Our dedicated team of lawyers is committed to providing a first-class service to patients and their families who have sustained avoidable, often life-changing, injuries due to medical negligence.

The team is led by five highly experienced Partners whose unique mixture of expertise  ensures their clients receive the best possible service and secure significant settlements from their claims. Two of the Partners are qualified doctors, and other Partners in the team have acted in defence of medical negligence claims, meaning they have a valuable understanding of how the process works from the “other side”. The team undertakes a full range of medical negligence work including cases arising from birth injuries, cauda equina syndrome, encephalitis, and delayed diagnoses of cancer.

The team is based across our offices in Southampton, Guildford, and Richmond, which makes it ideally placed to act for clients across the South-East, London, and beyond. Despite being spread over multiple offices, we adopt a “one-team” approach, where knowledge and support are shared across the team in the interest of improving outcomes for our clients.

Moore Barlow fields a team that brings together strong claimant-side expertise with deep medical insight, particularly through the contributions of dual-qualified practitioners. […] The team’s work is underscored by a longstanding interest in patient safety, charitable engagement, and a collaborative, multi-disciplinary structure.

Legal 500 Editorial commentary

Day to Day:

  • You will be building strong relationships with our clients and their families, ensuring they receive a supportive service throughout the duration of their claim.
  • You will be responsible for managing your own caseload of matters, and you will have the opportunity to be involved in more complex and protracted matters which require collaboration with other members of the team.
  • You will have the opportunity to contribute towards the team’s business development by taking part in events and writing material for the website.

What we look for:

  • A qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with post-qualified experience working in a Medical Negligence Team.
  • We do not tend to use PQE as the sole measure of experience, but we estimate this position would suit somebody between 2-4PQE.
  • We are open to applicants with claimant and/or defendant experience.
  • Great communication skills, and a passion for assisting vulnerable individuals facing extremely challenging circumstances.
  • Attention to detail particularly when considering large volumes of medical records and other material.
  • Ability to analyse and succinctly articulate the key issues in a matter.
  • A keen understanding of the Medical Negligence pre-action protocol and the Civil Procedure rules.
  • You will be calm under pressure, adopt a naturally proactive approach to your work, and have the ability to adapt to changing priorities at short notice.
  • We are human-first in everything we do and seek people who share this trait. You will have a passion for helping clients achieve their goals and the ability to think creatively.
  • Whilst this position is offered full-time, we offer a split of working from home and the office. We are a flexible team and are open to considering alternative working patters.

If you have the required skills and experience and are keen to advance your career as part of our leading Medical Negligence Team, then we strongly encourage you to apply.
